Penerapan Pendidikan Multikultural dalam Meningkatkan Sikap Toleransi Mahasiswa PGSD

The diversity of ethnicities, cultures, and religions at Borneo Tarakan University (UBT) requires the strengthening of multicultural education to foster students' tolerance. This study aims to analyze the implementation of multicultural education and its impact on improving the tolerance of PGSD Local A1 students in the 2024/2025 academic year. A qualitative case study approach was employed. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving 36 students from six different ethnic backgrounds. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model. The findings reveal that multicultural education was implemented through cross-cultural collaborative projects, discussions among students from diverse backgrounds, and reflections on cultural experiences. These strategies effectively improved students’ tolerance, as indicated by an increase in tolerance scores from 59% to 84%. The most significant improvement occurred in the multicultural awareness dimension, which increased from 60.1% to 88.4%. The study concludes that multicultural education effectively strengthens student tolerance and can serve as a relevant learning model for teacher education programs in multicultural and border regions.
